Our Services

We offer a free 30 min phone call or meet-up to get to know each other a bit and decide whether we want to work together.

Antenatal Sessions – NOW ONLINE

Our tailor-made birth preparation, individualised care for you (and your partner)! We offer online sessions for pregnant women and their birth partners – via Zoom, Skype or Messenger. We can also meet up face-to-face if you prefer that and if you live in our catchment area.

You and your partner can ask all of the questions that you have. Antenatal sessions are a great way of reducing anxiety, learning about labour and birth, and preparing yourself and your family for the journey ahead!

Your doula can:

  • help you write a birth vision
  • involve your partner in the preparations and help you decide together what is right for you
  • offer evidence-based information on any interventions suggested to you (such as an induction)
  • signpost you to additional services and groups
  • help you prepare for a positive postpartum experience

Cost: Antenatal sessions are 50 Euros per session (70-90 minutes).

Contact the doula of your choice to find out more.

On Call

If you hire a birth doula, your doula will go on call for you either at 38 or 39 weeks (depending on your needs). She’ll come to you during early labour to support you and your birth partner and help you create a safe, comfortable, positive start to the birth.

Birth Support

Your doula can attend your birth from early labour until a few hours after birth, if that’s what you would like.

During labour and birth, she will be where you need her to be – by your side or in the background. She will have your ‘birth vision’ with her, and will support you in going through labour and birth in the way that you choose. She will do her best to create a safe, sacred space for you while you are birthing, wherever you are (hospital or home). If you are in the hospital, it is important to know that your doula won’t be speaking on your behalf to the staff at the hospital – but she will have your back when you speak for yourself.

The kind of support your doula will offer depends on her experience and skills – have a look at the MEET THE DOULAS page to see who might be the right match for you. Your doula will help you to stay calm and focused. She will spread positive energy. She will remind you of helpful ways of breathing through contractions. She will offer non-medical pain relief such as massage and hot/cold compresses (or show your partner how to do it). She can help you try different birthing positions. She will remind you of your power, your strength, your inner wisdom. She can help with looking after older siblings (if you are at home), or make tea, or fetch a snack. Really, your doula is there to do whatever you need her to do to help you feel calm and positive.

In a culture where women are afraid of giving birth and hand over all their power Su helped me have strength and control over my birth choices. Su was so supportive, attentive and intuitive. She helped us with the many questions we had around planning for a natural birth in hospital and helped us develop a carefully guided birth plan. The night I went into labour I felt fully in control, powerful and yes, even excited!

Back-up Doula

As part of your birth support package, you will have a designated backup doula from the Wellmama team, in the unlikely event that your doula is not available for emergency reasons (such as sickness). Your doula may also call on a back-up doula if the birthing process takes more than 24 hours and she feels that her strength is fading, and that you would be better served with a well-rested doula.
